Sundogs...

Also called parhelions or mock suns, these beautiful lights are created by ice crystals in the atmosphere that refract the sun's light. Sundogs often indicate that rain or snow will arrive within a few days.

Light can be defined as "something that makes vision possible". The Indigenous people of America understood the importance of light in their lives. Some thought it so important they built their homes to face the rising sun. Even the most ancient people used it to time the seasons by marking when the sun reached its turning point along the horizon.

In our "modern" world, humanity seems to worry more about alarm clocks and airplane schedules than the rising and setting of the sun. We substitute all kinds of artificial light for the sun and often take our source of vision for granted. Regardless of where your light comes from, it's important to seek it out on a regular basis and appreciate its value in your life .

Instead of flipping a switch and lighting an entire area, try looking for sources of light that go beyond "seeing" to light up your emotions as well.

Ideas?

...the sparkles of brilliance that dance off of ice crystals dangling from leaves or bare branches, lines of fencing, power lines or even the eve of your home. The world can look much brighter in that instant as the sun comes up.

...a night light that welcomes you along a hallway and guides your steps in the midnight darkness. Who can resist being thankful for not stubbing your toes on the way to the restroom?

...Christmas tree lights in the darkness of early morning before any other lights come on. A few minutes sipping coffee and basking in their glow can start your day with a wonderful feeling of peace.

Find your light. Bask in it even if just for a moment or two. Build up a "store" of those feelings to draw from in the darker times that always come.
